On November 4 and 5, Anne-Marie McDermott will join the Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra conducted by Thomas O’Connor in Beethoven Piano Concertos, Part II, a continuation of the performances last April of Concertos 2, 3 and 4. Part II will present Beethoven’s Concerto No. 1, an early work glittering with the classicism of Mozart, and his grand Concerto No. 5 “Emperor,” a late work with symphonic dimensions and heroic boldness. | |||||||||
ABOUT PIANIST ANNE-MARIE McDERMOTT Anne-Marie was raised on Long Island, where she and her sisters were partly home-schooled by their mother, a professional Irish dancer. The young Anne-Marie went to her first piano concert when she was 5 years old. “I remember this shining black instrument onstage with a spotlight on it. I have learned since then that it’s not glamorous, but at that age, it was powerful and it was glamorous.”She continued her music studies at the Manhattan School of Music and was a winner of the Young Concert Artists auditions and an Avery Fisher Career Grant. In a professional career that has now spanned over 25 years, Anne-Marie has played concertos (she has 50 in her repertoire!), recitals, and chamber music throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. “She’s one of the great American pianists of her generation” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). “McDermott’s heart has heft and translucence, structural certainty and seasoned humanity” (BBC Music Magazine). |
