Women of Distinction Initiative

The Santa Fe Pro Musica Women of Distinction Initiative provides opportunities for women engaged in various facets of the classical music industry. This program is generously underwritten by Sallie Bingham.

 

 

Anne-Marie McDermott,

pianist and the new artistic director of Santa Fe Pro Musica, is an internationally acclaimed artist who balances a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, and artistic director.

 

Mei-Ann Chen,

conductor, is music director of the MacArthur Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated Chicago Sinfonietta. One of Musical America’s Top 30 Influencers (2015), she is noted for her innovation, imagination and dynamism.

Maxine Thévenot

is founder and artistic director of Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico, the director of music at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Albuquerque, and is on the faculty at the University of New Mexico.

The History of Red

The History of Red is co-commissioned by Santa Fe Pro Musica, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (Texas), Orlando Philharmonic (Florida), and The Knights (New York). Composed by Reena Esmail with text by poet Linda Hogan, this new work was initiated by and will feature soprano Kathryn Mueller.

Reena Esmail

is an award-winning Indian-American composer who weaves together the worlds of Hindustani and Western classical musics.

Linda Hogan

(Chickasaw) is a poet, storyteller and writer. She has received many awards, including the prestigious Lannan Literary Award and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Kathryn Mueller

is a three-time GRAMMY-nominated soprano. She grew up at the edge of Arizona’s White Mountain Apache Reservation, and has a long association with Santa Fe Pro Musica.
