Santa Fe Pro Musica
Announces the Cancellation of its 2020-21 Season
After much discussion and thoughtful deliberation, Santa Fe Pro Musica has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2020—21 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this necessary delay, we are more energized than ever. Our mission this year will be to plan for a wonderful, groundbreaking celebration of music in the 2021—22 season, our 40th anniversary, and to work tirelessly to nurture our relationship with our patrons, the broader Santa Fe community, and beyond.
We do not come to this decision lightly. We have solicited input from a variety of sources and were convinced that it would be imprudent to plan for a season in the shadow of a pandemic that is likely to have significant effects on our community and our world until at least next summer. We love to perform and present great music—it is what we do. And we will do so again when it is clear that our world is a safe place for all of us.
This will be a year of “hibernation” for Santa Fe Pro Musica. Hibernation is not about sleeping, but about conserving energy when resources are low, and preparing for a new future. Though we will not be presenting concerts, we will have much work to do in staying connected with you, our musical family. And we’ll be making plans for the 2021—22 season when internationally renowned pianist Anne-Marie McDermott takes over the artistic leadership of Santa Fe Pro Musica. Her enormous talent, imagination, experience, intellect, and star-power signals an exciting and dynamic future for Pro Musica. We welcome the opportunity to explore and take advantage of boundless new possibilities.
Our goals for the next year are to weather the pandemic and conserve valuable resources, so we can come out strong and work towards the musical future we envision. Over the course of history, music has transcended plague, war, revolution, and countless catastrophic events. We at Pro Musica are confident that when the current health crisis subsides, we will be there to celebrate the power of great music and great performances with you.
“Hibernation is a covert preparation for a more overt action.”
–Ralph Waldo Ellison, Invisible Man, 1953
