9.19.24 Join us for Gabriela Lena Frank’s Coqueteos

Gabriela Lena Frank

Gabriela Lena Frank was born in Berkeley, California to a mother of Peruvian-Chinese ancestry and a father of Lithuanian-Jewish descent. She drew inspiration for her six-movement work Leyendas (Legends) from “the idea of mestizaje … where cultures can coexist without the subjugation of one by the other. As such, this piece mixes elements from the Western classical and Andean folk music traditions.”
